Bringing 'The Ryder Way' to Vietnam

Bringing ‘The Ryder Way’ to Vietnam

Our facility in Vietnam is now firmly embedded in the Ryder business model, allowing us to bring greater supply chain resilience and commercial benefits to our customers.  The close alignment of our established Chinese production sites and the new Vietnamese facility is no happy accident, however.  It is the result of the efforts of many team members, whose commitment to supporting their Vietnamese colleagues has been inspiring.

At the time of writing, 35 of our China colleagues are in Vietnam and they have invested in mentoring, training so that the Vietnamese team have the skills to operate in 'The Ryder Way'.  Leaders and technical experts from Ryder facilities in China have regularly visited Ho Chi Minh City - equipped with a deep knowledge of our engineering and manufacturing practices, along with their experience in working within our company's operational framework.

Collaboration across borders

During each trip, our Chinese and Vietnamese teams collaborate on everything from individual customer projects to recruiting and training new colleagues.  This is accelerating the delivery of our customers' high-end products from our advanced production lines.  It has enabled the implementation of our Manufacturing Execution System software in Vietnamese.  Having certified quality management procedures in place means our aim to be ISO certified in Vietnam is a realistic one.

We have always understood that, for all the capabilities of the technology we deploy, it is our people that make the difference.  Ryder's Vietnamese management team is bringing a wealth of experience in maximising our opportunity within the market, supported by the mentoring of VP of Manufacturing, Mike Wen.  We are pleased to have our colleagues' expertise in delivering on our commitment to preferred employer status, in what is a competitive labour market.

Global business. Local experience.

With an international leadership team, global customer base and pan-Asian production facilities, Ryder is very focused on working effectively across regions and cultures. Our Chinese and Vietnamese teams have shared their traditions, work culture and innovative ways of thinking. This cross-border collaboration exemplifies the concept of "glocal" - maintaining our global ethos while accompanying local teams. In fact, it reflects the working practices of many of our international customers, whose businesses recognise the importance of being globally cohesive as a brand, yet locally responsive to market dynamics.

Of course, it is not just about the work! Further to the many professional benefits, these visits also open avenues for cultural exchange. Some might involve debates on which nation's cuisine is preferred, whilst others might be engaged in a competitive karaoke evening!  This cultivates mutual respect and a deeper sense of unity, something which firmly aligns with our commitment to a supportive and inclusive workplace culture.

The opportunity in Vietnam

Within six months of opening, our Vietnam facility has become a core part of our business.  It is a testament to the commitment of our team, and the strength of our culture, that this has happened so quickly.  A big thanks to everyone who has contributed to this success.

Our team are excited to help our global customer base discover the benefits of the Vietnamese market.  If you are looking to diversify your supply chain or expand your production volumes, we would love to hear from you.
